I have only a TV to connect to a sound surround system but cant do it can you help?

  1. If you TV has a/v outputs on it then just hook a composite cable (red, white, yellow) and run it from TV to your receiver. If it only has inputs then you will have to have a VCR or a cable box or something that provides audio output.


  2. The reference above talks about composite video. This has nothing to do with sound! The composite standard includes 2 (stereo!) analog cables for the stereo sound. If you have a modern TV or cable box you can use the digital output to run to your receiver and get surround sound, assuming the source supports surround. Another way to get surround sound is to use an HDMI interface which carries both video and sound digitally. However if you have an older TV you can get only stereo sound from it. There are several settings on your receiver to synthesize surround sound such as Dolby PLIIX or dts neo6. But these are not true surround sound.
