  1. i lived south of Rome for high school, and i highly recommend it!  my family hated Florence, but loved Rome!

Rome has so much more history than Florence -- when people think of Italy, they think of Rome.  unless you're into art, go to Rome.

    enjoy it!

  2. Florence is much better if you are looking for a more European experience. It is less of a tourist trap (though both cities could be considered culprits of that.) Florence is, as some other have said, much more compact and it is easier to get around on foot. Rome has much more in the way of ancient history and it does have more of the things that you "must" see (such as the Vatican, the trevi fountain, etc) but to be honest, it is also so much more commercial. Aside from most of the signs being in italian, you barely feel like you are in a different country than the US at all. It's all very Americanized and that is what put me off so much. Depending on the time of year, rome can also be much more crowded.

Florence is like a breath of fresh air. There is plenty to do and see. Arrive at the train station and after checking in you can go to the Pharmacia di Santa Maria Novella. Then move to the Duomo for pictures, tours, and in the spring plenty of vendors outside. Move into the San Lorenzo Market to get all of your souvenirs and then back track over to the Piazza della Republicca for shopping at some fancier stores and perhaps una caffe con gelato. If you go in May try to get tickets to something for Maggio Musicale. The best Trendy Restaurant in Florence is: Aqua al Due. Make sure that you check out ALL of the Santa Croce church and leather school before you leave the city. And the best gillato in all of italy is at Vestri on Borgo Albizzi! HAVE FUN WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE!

  3. rome

  4. hi,i'm italian and my advice is florence!both cities are so beautiful..but you have just 3 days then florence is the better choice...because is small rather then rome..

    sorry for my bad english!

  5. maybe if you could go to rome and then take a train and visit florence for a few hours just to get a taste of what its like...???

whichever you decide, have a great time on that free trip!  :-)

  6. Depends on your interest...for ancient history and some art,go to rome. For alot of rennaissance art,go to florence. If you have only 3 days, then florence is much more doable...ie,smaller area to walk, more compact.3 days is just enough to see rome's historical areas.Have fun!

  7. Rome is so amazing you would never regret having taken the trip. I've heard people being disappointed of Florence but nobody has ever told me that Rome was disappointing.

I've been there three times and will definitely go back again and again and again.

If you only have 3 days you won't have enough to visit the outside of rome (beautiful) however there is plenty to see in the city.

The only place that disappointed me was Villa Borghese, which I thought was a bit run down.

  8. Florence is a wonderful town, but Rome is Rome. I'm Italian and I'm proud to say that there aren't any city like Rome all over the world. It's fantastic, cause it's modern and ancient at the same time! Enjoy your trip to Italy!(Buon viaggio!)

  9. I would suggest Rome. Enjoy your trip!

  10. rome! theres so much to see! but you have to do some planning if you only have 3 days .. thats a tight schedule!

  11. Rome if you're interested in roman history. Florence if you want to hit some sick clubs....but it also offers great views and history. Tough call cause both are amazing,

  12. Rome is my choice

  13. depends on whether you like also to relax. Only 3 days in Rome can be very short, but it could give you enough of a glimpse at Florence. It also depends of whether you are interested in Medieval history or also in ancient history, in case you are interested in both, i would suggest that Rome offers more. Both places offer great occasions for good food.

As to the Pharmacia di Santa Maria Novella in Florence (the comment before mine was very complete!!), this is a place you must check out, if you get there!
