I have pain in my hand/wrist?

this weekend my wrist started bothering me and from a few years of waiting tables (giant trays) and other jobs i (think i) have carpel tunnel. anyway, its usually in my right hand, since im right handed, but the wrist that was hurting this weekend was my left. also, its more on the ring finger/pinky side than the usual thumb/pointer/ring side of the hand. well it was hurting, but then i fell and caught myself on my hands/wrists to avoid hitting my head. that was 2 days ago, and now the pain is more in my hand than wrist, the right hand feels fine too. it hurts when i bend my hand down toward the palm. does this sound like carpel tunnel? arthritis? tendinitis? does the fact that it hurts worse and more in my hand after the fall mean i injured it somehow? there's no bruising, swelling, or loss of movement (other than the fact that it hurts to do things w/ that hand anyway)...please dont say, "go get it xrayed!" cus obviously if it persists i will, but in the meantime im just curious if anyone knows what it sounds like i did to it/is wrong w/ it?

  1. One common source of wrist pain is the muscles that move the fingers (between the wrist stand elbow) are tense.  I used to have this problem all of the time.  Massaging these muscles usually alleviated the pain.  Also taking some calcium and magnesium (particularly before sleeping) helps muscles relax and move the lactic acid out.

If the problem continues and it does not appear to be a fracture or sprain, you should have your thyroid levels checked because low thyroid can also cause wrist pain.

In the mean time you could get one of those wrist bandages from the store.  They carry some in the pharmacy area of Walmart.  It might be that the bandage, rest, and some ice compresses may relieve your pain.

  2. The original complaint does not sound like carpal tunnel syndrome. It DOES sound like ulnar tunnel syndrome. Since your fall, though, carpal tunnel syndrome may have occurred due to a misalignment of the lunate bone of the wrist. If this bone goes out of alignment, it can put pressure on the same nerve that is affected in carpal tunnel syndrome. What you need to do to get both the ulnar tunnel syndrome AND the carpal tunnel syndrome in both of your hands fixed, once and for all, is to go to a chiropractor who specializes in caring for extremities and sports-related injuries.

  3. i have had carpel tunnel in both handsfor 20 years or so and it usually makes my hands  yes both tingle and go numb from my thumb fore finger middle finger to my ring finger but not the whole ring finger just half. you couldve sprained something or even worse tore a tendon or ligament(been there done that to). arthritis is a constant pain and usually goes away after a couple hours of moving around(for me anyways) but im no doc so if i were you i would have it looked at. could be minor, lets hope so  anyway hopr this was some help and good luck

  4. It sounds to me like arthritis has developed from excessive use of that hand. Until you get it looked at, they sell excellent support gloves for hand and wrist pain. I get a pain in my hand between my thumb and wrist kind of often and wear a brace to straighten my thumb. That plus an ice pack usually works. I hope you figure out what it is. Hand pain is so annoying because you need your hands for everything.
