I have plain curtains what can i add to them to give them color or some type of pattern?

i heard that you can put ribbon trim on the edges. do i put it on the top or bottom or both or sides ... i just dont want it to look tacky. any different ideas?

  1. One thick stripe of grosgrain ribbon in a contrasting color should do the trick. Put it a few inches up from the bottom, to leave you a band, twice as wide as the ribbon's width, of the primary color of the curtains.


  2. You can definitely add ribbon anywhere on the panel.  I've seen a lot done toward the bottom.  Another alternative would be to add a different fabric to the bottom (length will depend on what you like) to get a desired look of something like this:

    Or, if you prefer to embellish the top of the panel, try adding fabric there so it looks something like this:

    Both looks are nice and I think will give more impact than adding just grosgrain ribbon.  Also, you can buy extra fabric and make a pillow or something to the room so as to marry the looks together and giving you more of a custom look.  Best of Luck.
