I am currently working to get my PPL. I am in college earning a bachelors degree. I am not studying aviation but still hope to become an airline pilot. I have been in trouble a few times here at college for drinking alcohol. I am a freshman in college by the way. Do you think my trouble with alcohol will ruin my chances of getting a job?

  1. Yes.  If you have a drinking problem, then you will be found unsuitable for employment in the aviation industry in one way or another.  Please either get hep with your drinking problem or find another area of interest in life.

Sorry.  That's the way it is.

  2. Depends on what you mean by "trouble"

have you been convicted of DWI, did you lose your driving privileges etc.?

It is not a problem as far as getting your Pilots certificate, but might be problematic getting your medical certificate .

  3. Hello,

I don't know what exactly you mean when you say "Drinking". But if it is a DUI there will always be a place for you as long as we are in the upper side of a hiring cycle (like now, regional airlines are hiring lots of people). However, you should be prepared, because you are not going to get a job on a GOOD airline. If you get a job, it will be in a company where they don't treat employees like people, for example, MESA AIRLINES.

Getting a bachelor in something not related with aviation is the best thing you can do, since to be an airline pilot you need a bachelor, but it doesnt matter in what. So in case you are not able to get a job, you can try something related with what you studied.

And obviously, you need to stop the drinking habit. You keep killing your records, and airlines will not be the only ones denying you a job.

    Hope this helps!

  4. If you are a freshman in college and have had a FEW problems with drinking I would suggest you get help with your drinking problem. The world doesn't need a drunk in the air looking for a place to crash.

  5. if you have been convicted then it may be problematic.
