I have planted summer squash for the 1st time and i don't know what to do.. HELP...?

I thought I would try my hand with something i like to eat. (smile) I have 2 rather huge plants growing and I'm clueless as to what to expect next... I saw my first yellow flower today i was so excited. Now what do i do? Thanks

  1. In just a few weeks you will be covered up with squash...your friends will run and hide if  they see you coming with a paper sack.  Squash plant several squash each.  Each yellow flower will produce a squash and another 2 feet of vine.  By fall you may need an Axe to chop the vine into manageable sizes.  lol.  Just keep it watered and give it a Little shot of compost.

If your squash has started to bloom it won't be long before you have squash.  Check to see if the flower has a baby squash behind the bloom.  If so it is a female flower and if pollinated will develop a squash.  This only takes a few days.  Sometimes the first flowers are male and don't make a squash.  Pick your squash while they are not to big for better quality.
