I have problems with brown spots of dead grass appearing in my lawnthey appear like thatch what is causing it.

these spots appear randomly.apart from these small areas the rest of the lawn is in very good condition.

do you have a dog? I have patches that appear around the clothes line poles and where the clothes poles sit. if it is a dog or a cat usu could try a sprinkler every evening. and if you see an animal pee on the grass rinse it off with a bucket of water.

PS; Don't shoot cats, it's someones pet.

Dog urine is a possibility.  It could also be a fungus if You've been watering late in the day.

No urine of animals... There is fungal infection.. Get some fungicide  BAVISTIN, INDOFIL..etc, 10g / L and spray over the lawn. ...

The most common cause would be someone's animal urinating in your yard.  You could also have grubs under the ground destroying the roots or it could be a fungus.
