- I am a competitive figure skater, and I think that my muscles are being strained and growing rapidly from constantly jumping, etc. , which leads to the purple markings on my upper legs.

-Is there anyway to fix this or prevent this?

**Are there special tights or hosiery I can use for support? Any lotions I can use? Any foods I can eat?

PLEASE HELP!

  1. cocoa butter lotion is what most use to prevent/decrease these during pregnancy but this also occurs at puberty for many people. its completely normal and they will eventually fade to a closer shade to your skin. its not something to worry about health wise. there are also creams you can get for stretch marks and scars that supposedly decrease the visibility but i have not heard of them working...

  2. go to a physio if they are any good they will most likely know. I am a competitive skater aswell and I have never had that problem and my coaches work HEAPS on my jumps. maybe you are not warming up enough off ice in your muscle stretches and your muscles are straining when you get on the ice because they are cold. I know when I learnt my flying camel I ended up getting a groin and hamstring RSI (repetitive strain injury) from basicly working to hard on them so maybe that is what has happend to you although I can't help you with the purple markings maybe the muscles have bruised from the strain.

  3. If you mean stretch marks like the kind that pregnant women get, go to see your doctor. There are some very trivial reasons you could have stretch marks on your thighs and some very serious reasons you could have stretch marks on your thighs. Not that all of us don't mean well, but the proper person to decide what the cause is, is your doctor.

  4. I've been in figure skating for a long time too and also was a cheerleader through middle school, high school and college.  I also have stretch marks on my inner thighs and some on my hips.  I think it's just from the constant stretching, pushing yourself to extend things and many years of doing it.  Sometimes they go away, sometime they just lighten up and sometimes they're there forever.  They can be caused by rapid body changes.....a growth spurt, weight gain/loss, pregnancy, etc.  Check webmd.com.  You can get lotions and creams at drug stores to try to get rid of them, but the site recommends drinking plenty of water to keep skin hydrated in an effort to prevent them.  Good luck -- I feel your pain!  :)
