  1. It really doesnt matter what bird seed you use although you can tryt combining different types to incorporate both small and large seeds to attract large and small birds.

It depends on how many birds you have around your place o how long it will take them to find the seed. But if you palce it in an area that you usually see birds then they will find it easily, although you probably wont see any birds feeding until around sunset which is when they will normally eat.

Also make sure you place the seed close to a overhanging branch, etc. and it is raised off the ground so to prevent any predators from catching the birds when they are feeding, and the overhanging brach provides quick escape.

If you find that you still cant attract birds try a bird bath closeby. Also birds are attracted to the sound of water so either install a water fountain, or just hang a bucket above the bath and puncher a hole in the bucket and fill it with water so it drips into the bath.

    i hope this helps

  2. you could put it closer to the trees and then put regular bird food in there and see if they come

  3. The time it takes to attract birds will vary with the food you use and where you live. It also depends on how easy the food is to see.  If it is in a closed feeder it will take longer than an open one.  When I first started feeding birds, I used a "bell" of seeds that were hanging from the tree totally open to view.  I saw two chickadees on it the very next day.  Once birds began coming to that spot I switched to a typical feeder.  The best type of bird food to start with is black oil sunflower seeds.  It is the most readily available and attracts the widest variety of birds.
