Um, here's the question. (it's pretty easy I think)

(a) Which is the higher temperature, 43 C or 86 F ?

It says 43C is greater because it's above the body temperature.

I really don't get it, but I used the equation for temperature and it turned out 43C was greater. But rather than using equation, is there easy to way to just figure out? Don't really get why it's 43C even if it's above the body temperature,

  1.      I am not sure that there is another way to figure out the answer other than to plug the numbers into the formula. To convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit, the formula is F=(9/5C)+32, and from Fahrenheit to Celsius, the formula is C=5/9(F-32). Using these formulae, 43C=109.4F - dangerously above body temperature, which is 98.6F(37C); 86F=30C.

  2. Well, body temperature is a good comparison that eveyone should know.  Suppose you get sick in Europe or South America, or anywhere else in the known universe, for that matter.

    Normal body temperature is 37C which is 98.6F.  Since 43C is above 37C and 86F is below 98.6F, then 43C must be greater than 86F.

    I like it.  Good, quick solution.

    Or you could crank it through the formula to confirm it.

    F = 1.8C + 32

    F = 1.8(43) + 32

    F = 109F

    So 43C = 109F, which is definitely above 86F and above normal body temperature.
