I quit pop, aside from coffee which im addicted to, but am drinking lots of water, besides the water i add red and white teas to water for the antioxidants. Is this actually helping hydrate or just adding to dehydration simply because its still tea??

  1. I think it is helping to hydrate

  2. If you want to rehydrate you should avoid beverages that contain caffeine, since that will make you pee more and dehydrate you.  Regular tea has caffeine in it, so it is not good for rehydration.  If it is herbal tea it will do a good a job or rehydrating you, since these do not contain caffeine.

  3. no it should be hydrating. made on water

  4. It is still dehydrating you a little. Caffeine takes more water to process than a caffeinated drink provides so it dehydrates us as it takes extra water in our system to process the caffeine.

Coffee has 85mg per serving, green/white tea has 30 mg per serving, regular (black/red) tea has 50 mg per serving, pop (or sodas) typically have between 30 - 50 mg per serving. The maximum safe amount of caffeine we can take in a day is 300mg.

Since you are only adding some tea to water and cut out sodas altogether I think you may have cut down on your overall caffeine intake. So from reducing the caffeine you are getting more hydration from the water.

  5. first off what is "pop"?

it has been said that drinking caffeine dehydrates you.. weather that's true or not i don't know but many studies have shown that even if it does the amount of water in that caffeinated drink far out weighs the amount you may or may not loose due to dehydrating effects...
