  1. My sister had mono for a few months. Be careful and do not over exert yourself, you really do not want it to infect your liver!!! Get some good books ?(Harry Potter series is great) and start looking for some good TV shows to watch during the day. My sister played a lot of games online like neopets to pass the time. Good Luck and Feel Better =] you WILL get better- stay positive!

  2. yes, i have some suggestions. first it to take all the rest you need. extreme fatigue is a symptom of mono, so when you start to feel tired, take a break and maybe take a nap. do not push yourself when you feeling tired because you will recover slower. another symptom is throat-soreness. if you have this, try sucking on lozenges & eating soft foods (ice cream, yogurt, smoothies, soft pretzels, pudding, jello, soft bread, soup). if you have a fever, take medicine (tylenol, advil) to get your temperature down & cover yourself with cold cloths (and drink a lot of water). it is important to remember that there is no medicine that will cure mono, as it is caused by a virus. medicine is used to treat bacterial infections/disease, not viral ones for which there is no cure except time and tlc. because of this, the duration can last anywhere from weeks to months. if you follow the tips above then it will keep you more comfortable and hopefully help the virus go away faster. also, do not share drinks or kiss anyone until you are feeling better because mono is spread through direct contact with saliva - that is how you contracted the virus. i'm 16 and i got mono last year and the above are the things that i did. find some websites and research a bit about the virus. maybe find some books at the library or book store.

  3. I had mono when I was about 19. I remember always being tired and run-down. The best advise I can give you is make sure you get plenty of rest, and eat lots of protein. Also, be careful not to spread it (washing of table utensils, kissing, etc)

  4. Lots of rest.

  5. What i found was that its important always to feel good about your self . avoid friends who tend to put you down or your mother who keeps yelling at you that there's nothing wrong with you! also make sure ALWAYS to eat and sleep as much as you need.

    get well soon.

  6. Well when I had mono I had to go to the ER twice and stayed in the hospital for 2 days and couldn't eat any sort of solid food for two months and then I got a rash allover my boday and then a staph infection...I got so sick of being sick I cried( lol)...

But anyways, that was a severe case. It depends on how severe your case is. If you are on any medications for it like I was..it might mess up your ability to sleep. See Mono naturally makes you exhausted all the time and they gave me steroids( which the may give to you) to reduce the severe swelling in my tonsils. But steroids have a nasty tendency to keep you awake...so the only thing that would allow me to rest was morphine and the only thing to get rid of the pain was vicodin( liquid form of course). So here's my ideas:

    1) Ask for as many painkillers as you can get. Mono is exhausting and painful for months and the painkillers can dull the pain. If you happen to have an addictive personality, warm bathes and lots of rest and cold ice cream can help.

    2) Don't go back to school too early. After a month and a half of missing school, I was desperate to go back...but I wasn't ready. Wait until you honestly feel healthy enough to walk around for at least a week and then go back. If not, keep resting until you are!

    3) Sleep as much as possible, become almost vegatative(It's ok when your this sick) and take all the help your mom offers( don't be modest...believe me she wants to help you.

In the end just relax and try to remember you really don't have to do anything...so as sick as you are, this si still kind of a vacation. I dunno, that was the only thing that kept me sane. Good luck and keep me updated!

ps. hope your recovery is speedy and I hope you don't have to go thru what I did :).
