I have read on here that it is OK to transport a LCD flat screen TV laying on its back. Is this true?

I have always heard that you need to transport a flat screen tv standing straight up or it will break. I am getting a new one soon and I will be transporting it myself. Help! I don't want to break it before I get it home!

  1. LCD is less fragile than Plasma - so you may be able to do this so long as its supported on a soft surface (the top protected) and not subject to any shocks (such as speed humps).

Do not try this at all with a plasma the glass will shatter under its own weight on a road.

Best top put it in its original box and transport it upright thats what it was designed for! The larger the screen the greater the risk of damage! what is OK for a 14" may not be for a 32".

its up to you to assess if the risk and cost of damage is worth it - the larger the screen the less its worth taking the risk!

  2. IF and only IF it is supported across it's entire surface.

If you are getting a new one, It should come in a factory container meant for shipping.  Use that.  If the container is designed for vertical transportation, follow those instructions.
