  1. People fill in the unknown with the worst possible scenario.  The problem is that most people change after joining and think they're the sh*t just for being greek.  Others who don't like the life of greeks think it's funny how that person is proud of something they would be ashamed of.

  2. I think that it is sad that people feel the need to join a sorority to fit in.  It is verry sad that you have to buy friends because you cannot make them on your own.  I say be your own person and do not join

  3. get your hands on Pledged:The Secret Life of Sororities by Alexandra Robbins. It might help to shed some light on why people might view A.K.A. in a negative way. I've read that book, and find it a valuable resource on sororities.

  4. Well, I've never been in a sorority, so I can't speak for those who have, but I have friends in them/who were in them...I don't know AKA's reputation either since we didn't have a chapter of that on my campus...But doesn't every sorority and fraternity have its own reputation specific to the school? Or is it really a national thing? Like, at my school Phi Mu was the "fat girls" sorority since a lot of the girls in it at my school were "cows" (so mean); Alpha Phi was the rich b*tch sorority...I could go on. So I don't know if you're talking about the sorority's reputation in general, but I didn't know it worked that way, thought it was unique to the school, sorry.

And anyway, shouldn't the only thing that matters be how you feel about the girls in the sorority YOURSELF, without others' opinions? If you really like the girls and how they treat you, and you really feel like you 'fit' that sorority, go for it! If they're mean b*tches to you and others, then don't waste your time being miserable. College is too short!

  5. Everyone who is not greek will have negative view on ALL sororities and fraternities, not just Alpha Kappa Alpha. It's just ignorance on their part of letting a few bad apples spoil the bunch. If it's in your heart to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, don't let the negative stereotypes stop you. Some one will always have something to say, whether it's good or bad.
