  1. no, this means that you digest your food slower and might be more likely to gain weight.

  2. Please do not believe that you have to be hungry to be skinny.  I too had ascribed to that view as I have a condition that makes me insulin resistant and interrups my metabolic function so I embarked on a very unhealthy starvation style diet - yes I lost the weight with great pain and effort but when I resumed normal eating I started gaining it all back and then some.  I was taught how to improve my health through diet and exercise which is the only way.

Your metabolism can easily be increased by a few changes to your diet, i.e. eating smaller meals or "feedings" every 3/4 hours, this may be a medium piece of fruit, a boiled egg, some crunchy veggies with low-fat cottage cheese, a handul of nuts etc, just make sure that your meals are nutritionally balanced - 40% carbs(preferably wholegrain), 40% protein(lean meats, pultry and fish) and 20% good fats (think olive oil).

Exercise is key, regardless of your weight, fitness is your goal to ensure a faster metabolism - remember that muscle burns fat(even when you are being sedentary) therefore it is in your best interests to build muscle and tone your body.  Do moderate cardio everyday and some weight/strength training atleast 3 times a week.  It really helps!

    Best of luck to you.

  3. No, to be skinny, you simply have to have a low body mass and a low body fat level. This, you can get through diet and exercise.

With a slow metabolism, this MAY be harder to achieve, but it can be done. Your hunger levels have nothing to do with being skinny.

  4. How do you know you have slow metabolism?  Have you had a TSH test done to test your thyroid? Like Chooesy stated not eating and starving yourself can seriously slow your metabolism down. I believe there are some vitamins that increase metabolic rate but I don't know the exact ones at this writing, check with a Health Food Store.  I would eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly to increase your metabolism, starving yourself will not increase your metabolism it will only tell your body to hold on to every bit of body fat it can because it thinks you are starving.

  5. NO!  Not at all, what it means is that you need to 1) eat the right foods to get your metabolism sped up, and that stick with you so you don't feel hungry all the time (whole grains/high in fiber, lean meats/protein, and foods with healthy fats) and 2) cut out all/any sweets and refined sugars/grains and unhealthy fats you may be consuming and 3)you need to get active!  If you make simple changes to your diet like eating more variety/color (Eat 5 a day Fresh Fruits and Vegetables), do 20 minutes or so of brisk activity - walking is great!, and make the right food choices you shouldn't have trouble losing weight at all.  I highly suggest that if you haven't already done so read The South Beach Diet Book by Dr. Arthur Agatston.  It really changed my life!  And it was really easy, I lost weight, and I was NEVER really hungry.  Good Luck

  6. No.  There are ways you can speed up your metabolism.  Exercise is one of them.  Eat healthy foods, stay away from your processed foods and high glycemic carbs.  ie.  bagels and exercise 5 days per week and lift weights.  You will speed up your metabolism.

And dieting and starving yourself are only going to slow your metabolism down.  Avoid both.

  7. I think you mean slow metabolism.  No, of course not, well depending what you mean by skinny.  You will, however need to fix your metabolism.  On thing that slows it is FOOD DEPRIVATION.

But maybe you mean look emaciated, then likely yes.  In any case that's what it's liable to take or get sick.

    Try watching http://www.pacepower.net/

Pace twin study.  Notice how much thinner the twin who did only 10 mins a day with no diet change, is.  She's more fit also than the twin who ran 10 miles every other day.  In fact 10 min a day twin stopped exercising a while as her body fat was TOO low.
