I have received several calls from a UK land line phone number i have the number but i do not want to ring it

how would i go about decovering the name of the person whos number this is without ringing it?

Unless its a public number that can be found googleing, there's no easy way. While it would be possible to use a reverse phone directory these are not legal in the UK due to privacy and data protection laws. Even you find a reverse directory service, a very high percentage of UK numbers are unlisted.

Having said that, you may be able to work out who it is by where the number is from. If it begins 01 or 02 (+441 / 0111 or +442 / 0112 from the USA) then it's a landline and the next few digits can tell you the town. If it's 07 (+447 / 0117) then it's likely to be a moble phone.

Try the options others have mentioned, but if you draw a blank then you could ring it anonymously: just add 141 before dialling the complete number and listen to see who answers. Then you can decide whether to speak or remain silent and hang up. Have fun and put on a foreign accent if you like!

I know you said you don't want to ring it but this is the fastest way to find out and end your anxiety.

yeah i too would google it.

failing that i would turn off the 'number sending' on my mobile and ring it off that so they dont know its you ringing to try and find out who it is.

its really annoying isnt it when you dont know who it is

have you googled it? or yahooed it? sometimes the number is linked to a company
