I have recently brought a pair of rockford fosgate 6.5'' split speakers and a pair 6x9 speakers?

i want to know whether i need a amp or not and if so what specs? the power handling for both speakers are as follow,

watts RMS/peak - 60 watts RMS/120 watts peak

  1. you dont need an amp but if you choose to get one your speakers will be louder then running them off the deck and you have more tuning options. basiclly thell sound alot better wit an after market amp you could probably get an amp reall cheap because 60 watts is not alot of power.


  2. u could probably go wit an amp that is 500w rms thats a litle over but it will push ur highs well

  3. your radio should have the necessary wattage to push those speakers (at low to moderate volumes), but if you listen to your music with the volume over halfway up you will notice that they sound distorted

    if you add an amp to them they would sound clearer at higher volumes because the radio would not be over working itself trying to push them

    i would invest in a couple sets of bass blockers to protect them also http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/G... (Bass Blockers stop speaker distortion caused by excessive bass relative to a speaker's bass output capability. They are especially useful with small diameter speakers and tweeters. Bass Blockers are typically installed right before the positive speaker input terminal, in-line with the positive speaker lead.)
