I have recently got a wahu skimboard. I just wanted to know if u have got any tips on. Wear, how and when?

I live in sydney at botany. Iv been to marubra to skimboard a few times but it kinda sucks down there. I also have a bit of trouble getting some speed. When ever i jump onto the board i start to slow down very fast. I also have a bit of a problem getting the board above the water so whenever i hit a wave my board just sticks to the bottom and i got flying. PLZ HELP I SUCK AT THIS
