Can you help me clean it? I don't want to use anything poisonous since my dog sometimes drinks from the toilet (ugh!).

  1. Baking Soda and lemon juice.  They will clean anything and it may not taste good together, but not harmful to the doggy. Just flush the toilet, sprinkle baking soda in, and scrub it around with half a lemon. Perhaps a more hands on approach than is ideal with toilets, but its safer for the pets.

  2. Pour bleach directly in the toilet close lid for the puppy and close door too. Wait about an hour and repeat if need to, this keeps my toilet sparkling!!  GOOD LUCK!

  3. You have a lot of iron in your water.  Get a product called Iron Out.  You can find it at a hardware store, Lowes or Home Depot.  You can scrub your toilet with that and it will remove the stain.  Once rinsed, your dog will never know.  (I have a dog too.  I hate sitting on water drips, so I close the lid....allllllllll the time!  lol)  P.S.  You can use Iron Out in your laundry too.

  4. The red around the toilet is just iron deposits.  If you have a water softener you can add rust remover pellets to this and eliminate the rust stains.  This is all safe in regards to drinking water and to the septic.  Fido will be just fine.
