Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet. Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him. (1 Kings 20:35-36 NLT)

  1. What.. Jesus did not encourage people to hit each other.

  2. Did the priest tell you to strike him by divine inspiration?

Does God care if you cite precedent?

Why do you ask this question every night?

  3. nope

  4. Keep reading and see what Ahab and Jezabel get.  Massacred by dogs.

You're pulling this verse out of a long and somewhat convoluted story, and it's 1:51 here.  I suggest that you google it for proper exegesis.

You are reading it out of context.  Do you realize that chapter and verse numbers were added much later?  There are paragraphs and there are entire passages.  This particular story must be read to understand what was going on.  I think the person below me has it right.

  5. The prophet was told to carry a message to a king, and he needed the bruising to get the king to stop and listen to the message. The man who refused was rejecting the direction of Jehovah, and became "cat food". Another man had to carry out the striking so the prophet could carry out this important judgment message.

Ahab had received protection by the hand of Jehovah, as he confounded the attacks of the Assyrians. It was to the point that Benhadad became trapped in a city. What did Ahab do? Instead of devoting this enemy of God's people to death, he concluded a covenant with him.

This prophet had that message of judgment for Ahab and the man who refused to hit him delayed the doing of what had to be done.

So, what message did the priest have to carry that was so important?

  6. As there is no evidence at all that the Christian god exists and no evidence at all for the veracity of the statements of the bible, then you should know that there will be no lion or any other scary predatory animal waiting to eat you.

  7. We are living under a new covenant with Jesus Christ. He's the Son of God who died for us so that our sins will be forgiven. See, Adam caused death when he ate of the fruit, but Jesus died for us so that we may have everlasting life with Him in heaven. Yet, he arose again.

This passage is in the Old Testament of the bible-before Christ came to earth. Now, God gives grace to us through our Lord, Jesus Christ. This doesn't mean that you can still hit the priest. I'm just saying that we are living in the New Testament of the bible where we go to Jesus. It is written that no man can go to the Father (God) except through the Son (Jesus Christ). In the New Testament starting with Matthew, it gives us instruction on how to live our lives as believers.

  8. It was nice knowing you.

  9. I think he's sending one of those fruit kitties

  10. Yet another reason why the bible is for insane people.
