Last night I was passing a semi on the interstate in the left lane going about 75, being tailgated. When I got past the truck I started to get over to let the jerk behind me by, but no, the SUV behind me whipped around to the right sped up to 90mph or more and pass me like a little grandma.

I sped up to try and tailgate her but I couldn't catch her. So then instead I decided to take it out on every other driver I encountered on the way home... quick aggresive lane changes, cutting people off, tailgating, honking at people, yelling at the top of my lungs and pounding on the steering wheel. The fact that I let her get to me made me even more angry.

Is this normal? Do I have anger management issues?

  1. Yes, you should talk to someone about these anger issues you have.

  2. This is a wonderful story. You should give it to Hollywood. Or at least to MTV for a video. As for its believability, zero.

  3. YES, get help.  See a pshychiatrist for your anger issues and take a defensive driving class to learn how to better manage your vehicle.

But remember this- the other people you harrassed on the road did nothing other than leave their house to go somewhere.  You were victimized, and therefore decided to victimize other people.  That response is selfish and immature.  How about reminding yourself that the jerk that cut you off is just that, a jerk (PG version).  That doesn't mean you get to be more of a jerk.  Be the bigger person, let it go and you may not kill someone when your out on the road.

Otherwise, make sure you have REALLY good car insurance, a large life insurance policy and you may want to get an umbrella liability policy to pay your legal expenses when you are charged with vehicular manslaughter because your driving killed someone.
