I have rocky land about 1/4 acre in the poconos, weeds etc.what should i do?

someone wanted to charge $8,000 for 44 cubic yards of top soil. i just want something very simple for the the time being

Try landscaping with bushes, trees and perennials that grow well in your area, and forget the lawn.   Use ground covers instead of grass.   If you have enough sun, you can even put in food crops like fruit trees, grape vines, blackberry bushes, etc.  

If you are shopping for top soil and soil amendments, look in your yellow pages for places that sell bulk soil, much, mushroom soil, gravel, etc.   A lot of those places deliver.

Do your research and don't rely on someone with a truck who wants to rip you off.

Also look in craigslist.org for your area to see if someone who is excavating is giving away or selling free fill.

You're getting charged over 180 dollars per yard of topsoil from this guy.  Thats ridiculous.  You can get topsoil from nurseries for 35 dollars per yard.  I'd buy it from them and then find somebody else to do your landscape work.  This guy sounds like a crook.

First, go buy some goats. Goats like weeds and will eat them. Just tether them to a stake by some weeds and the goats will eat everything in the stake's radius. Move the stake if there are more weeds. Once the weeds are gone, turn your land into a petting zoo and charge people to come pet your goats. This works on so many levels because you saved $8,000. The petting zoo will get you out of "the red" with the goats and you charge people to feed them as well, being that there are no more weeds to sustain them.
