Question:

I have several questions about Moleskin Notebooks. Could someone help answer them?

I'd like to buy a Moleskine Cahier notebook set, but since it's a bit new I could also purchase a normal pocket sized notebook. Where would I buy one without buying them online? Moleskine were supposedly used by some of the masters of writing and art. But is it worth buying? Are there Moleskine imitations that are cheaper and work just as well? Is there something I can do to imtate the Moleskine feel? Basically, I want to know about Moleskine and how other people react to it (i.e. what you do with it, on a scale of 1 - 10 how much do you like it).

All opinions and answers are welcome and appreciated. Thank you!

  1. I don't think there is anything in particular about the Moleskine anymore aside from the celebrity cachet and that they are cool and seem well made.  Certainly the notebook itself did not contribute in any way to the genius of its users.  Possibly at that time it was unique, or maybe, for all I know, less expensive than its counterparts.  I have seen them for sale at various stationery and gift stores and have almost succumbed to the allure even though I am not generally a brand name kind of person.  I think that if what you want is a nice little notebook you should go looking and choose the one you like the best that also best suits your budget.  The Moleskine will not "work" any better than another, it will simply be a Moleskine and if that is very important to you go for it, but not for functional reasons.  Binding techniques are fairly universal and there is a good chance they are no longer even manufactured by the original maker.  Really it is an entirely personal thing, just have the courage of your convictions, whatever they may be!
