  1. Habs_fan pretty much summed it up right there, I usually go down a size and a half.

  2. i go down by either 1/2 a size or one full size down so probably a size 8.5 or 9.

  3. depends on the maker

approximately 1-1.5 sizes smaller is the rule of thumb

try them on. even if on paper you have the perfect fit you could be in trouble

DO NOT make the mistake of trying to buy online without having tried on the skate. even if you have to shop that charges twice as much locally just to try them on and fit you, do that and then once you find the size buy it online

  4. Try to gauge off of foot size, not shoe size. Shoes fit differently and people can buy shoes that are too big, opting for comfort. You should not make that mistake when sizing skates. A 9.5 FOOT would wear a sz. 7.0 - 8.5 skate, depending on brand and fit preference.

I have a size 11 foot and wore an 8.5 bauer or daoust skate. I no longer play at a competitive level so, I went to a size 9 skate. Now, if I were to wear a CCM or RBK model, I'd go down to an 8.5, due to the brand's different last and sizing.

A proper fit calls for your toes to be lightly brushing the front of the skate when they are laced up and your knees bent. Ultimately, the best way to size a skate is to try on several pairs, models and sizes to find what feels best.

  5. check in store

  6. Hockey skates are typically 1 size smaller than your shoe size, but because you have so many shoe sizes you should check with a local store.

  7. i would say probably a 10 because you usually have to go 1/2 a size larger than what u wear in shoes.

  8. If you want what's called a "pro-fit" (or something like that) you will probably wear a skate thats 1-2 sizes smaller then your street shoe.  I wear a men's 8 (ladies 9) and my skates are 6.5 or 7's (can't remember).  You definitely want a sungger fit then your sneaks or hiking boots.  So if you wear a 9.5 I'd check out skates in an 8 or 8.5

If your toes are just grazing the toes of your skates when your standing that's probably ok, but if they still touch the toe of the skate when your knees aren't bent...this is bad. When you skate properly your knees will be bent, which draws the foot back in the skates.

Paul Coffey used to wear skates up to three sizes smaller then his shoe-size...to me this is crazy.  He claimed it helped him skate faster (man that guys could skate!!).

  9. depends on the width or narrowness of your foot, the skate itself, if you're gonna wear thick or thin socks, or even barefoot, and how tight a fit you can handle. most people downsize 1 or 1.5 sizes (in your case an 8 or 8.5 skate) but me I downsize 2 or so (10.5 or 11 shoe, but 8.5 skate) better fit, more control. best to get fit in store and try different models and brands. and keep in mind that shoes too can vary in size/width. Mission skates fit pretty close to skate size but other brands (CCM, Bauer and Graf) hopefully you will use our advise.

  10. It differs for all people. It depends on foot size/shape and skate brand. For me, I usually go down 2 sizes for CCM Pro Tacks.
