I have small, red bumps on the leaves of my 5 year old Maple. What the heck are they?

  1. no, the bumps on your leaves are eggs. the insect bites the leaf which bothers the leaf. in response the leaf inflammes, much like how our skin puffs up from an infecttion. the egg is layed in the rasied bump, and stays until it hatces. its harmless though, don't worry about it.


  2. Probably some sort of leaf gall, usually caused by mites inside the leaf which cause a change in the growth of the plant cells around them.  Probably won't cause too much harm, as the leaves go right on doing what they are supposed to - making carbohydrates.  Galls that affect twigs are more problematic, as they will admit disease and deformity into the tree itself.

  3. they are galls due to bacterial infection.
