I think I may have dampness but I've been told that I don't. I still think this is the plaster beetle I have in my house. I want to know how to make sure that this is definitely the plaster beetle and how to get rid of it, preferably without pesticides. Can anyone help please?

  1. What do they look like.  We built a house 3 years ago and we had the little red beetles everywhere.  But what do they look like?

Additional- Try borax and mix with sugar, put it in areas were you see lots of them.  Otherwise I use Home Defense- it works really well (even though its a pesticide).

  2. The hairy larvae may indicate carpet beetles. Have you had any damage to textiles?

Plaster beetles are easily controlled by reducing the humidity in your house.

1/ Check for leaking or blocked guttering.

2/ Check for leaking pipes and seals around sinks, shower trays etc.

3/ Borrow a dehumidifier for a few weeks.

  3. plaster beetles are found in new homes too, they like moisture but are onlt 2-3 mm long.u need to reduce humidty in ur home also once the weather cools they usually die

  4. Are you sure it's not Woodlice....

  5. Google Plaster Beetle Page, there you will find photo's, horrid things aren't they.
