They are soy dogs (for those who didn't know) and it says on the package "use or freeze within 3-5 days of opening". Well, I don't remember when I opened them but I think it was more than 5 days ago.

I really want one.

They don't smell bad.

They don't look bad.

There isn't meat or anything in them so what really could go bad?

Should I take my chances?

  1. Just wash them off, they get a little slimy when they have been in the fridge a few days; and cook them good. I've cooked one's that have been in the fridge 12 days.

BTW: Pay no attention to the meat loby bot above me. Soy is good for you.

  2. Honestly, DON’T EAT SOY. The stuff is poisonous. The Australian Cancer Society has issued a warning to all people currently under going treatment for breast cancer or prostate cancer not to consume any soy products at all. The phyto hormones in soy will drive the tumours to grow faster that the chemo can kill them. They have also issued a warning to anyone who has recovered from any hormone driven tumours never to consume soy products again. If it can drive the tumours to grow faster, it can cause them in the first place. Not to mention all the other soy related problems. Go to www.soyonlineservice.co.nz

  3. Sorry Renee P, but the guy above mentions nothing about meat, just soy. As a biologist I have no axe to grind against vegetarians, but I do care about the health of people and especially those that are being conned by the pro soy big business. Sadly Esra Dral is right and he is quoting an official release from the Australian Cancer Centre - an organisation that is not under political pressure from corporates like Monsanto. All the pro soy, soy is good for you info comes from research funded by the likes of Monsanto and the soy growers association. So, go ahead and just dismiss the genuine attempts of someone to help you as a pro meat lobby. I myself support vegetarians. My brother is a veggie but he does not eat soy because of the research we have done together and I never push him to eat meat, that would be wrong. So don't diss someone for trying to look out for you, even if you are a stranger. So keep eating soy, just watch out for the breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, suppressed thyroid function, trypsin inhibition and reduction in absorption of trace elements. Or don't just be force fed by the large corporates and think for yourself.

  4. Id go ahead and try one. Ive drank soy milk that was in the fridge for like 2 months, and I was fine. I admit not the greatest idea but oh well... I wasnt sick at all. Id probably give it a 2 week limit.

  5. Take a bite, if it is bad spit it out and discard, otherwise, enjoy. Smart dogs are GOOD!!!

  6. If it still looks good, go for it, I would. I could take one right about now anyway!

  7. Time limits like that are always derived with quite a bit of uncertainty - so much depends on what the temperature of your refrigerator is, and perhaps most importantly, what the bacterial count was at the beginning of, and during the time period in question.

If they haven't spent time sitting out on the table with lots of people pawing over them, talking over them, or otherwise adding to the bacterial count, you should be okay.
