I admit,I still like pokemon and I'm 14.I heard about the little card cases and plushies at burger king and I told my mom and she was going to take me today but then she went to my 16 year old brother, told him she was taking me over there to check out the pokemon and I heard them talking and laughing and I asked my mom what she was talking about and she said "Your brother was just -slapping his head in disappointment- saying Wow....." and mom laughed,I got upset because I'm tired of them always making fun of me,and when I said "s***w it I don't want to go" my mother got super mad.

Does anyone have any tips or something to stop my family from making fun of me?

  1. lol its okay to like pokemon, just be yourself who cares what they say

  2. Even though they are your family it may be hard, at times, for them to fully understand where your coming from, and why your interested in things.  But absolutely do not be afraid to be yourself around them.  They will ultimately love you in the end.  So for now try to explain things to your mom, and see if she attempts to understand it.  If not, then try your dad.  They're your parents, so no matter what you say to them, it matters.  Truly.

  3. well you could just stop watching pokemon....thats a start

  4. Have you tried talking to them about how you feel? It may be amusing to them but that's really hurtful because it means something to you. I think your mum would understand if you explained it to her. I don't see anything wrong with liking pokemon (they're cute!), in fact, I still have quite a complex about liking anime (used to cop it from my sister) and I'm considerably older than you. We wouldn't have things like cartoons, anime, games and toys unless there were people who took an interest in creating and designing them (...and I'm pretty sure they're older than 10yrs)

I don't see why there should be some standard for what's 'normal' in terms of interests. Sometimes it helps when you can find other people who share the same interests. Don't know how internet savvy you are but there are generally groups on the internet.

  5. tell them that, thats who you are and you are going to like whatever you want to like. if they love you then they wont care what you choose to like. I mean I'm 16 and I like harry potter. I love harry potter so much I am re-reading the series for the second time and I dress up like a wizard when the new movies come out. my point is, don't care what they think. in 20 years you'll look back and laugh weather or not liked pokemon when you were 14. life's too short to care about these things.

  6. If you can't beat them, then join them.

in other wards have some fun with them....that is just family lighten up some.

    good luck.

I' am way older then you are, and I still love little bear.  you only live onces enjoy.

  7. When my family makes fun of me (in a good way) I laugh too, and I laugh the most. Seriously, it's no big deal, just be comfortable with yourself.
