I have some frankincense tears, how do I use them?

I tried to just burn some and they stink, what else can I do to get the true fragrance from them? I like the smell of the incense sticks that smell like frankincense, I figured the real frankincense tears would be even better, boy was I wrong. If you burn these they don't smell anything like the sticks do. Is there s recipe or something I can use to get a better smell from these, or did I get rotten tears.

I have wondered the same thing .. you might try getting a small brass cup and hang it over a candle with the frankinsence inside the brass cup ... the heat from the candle would warm the frankinsence and cause it to emit fragrance.

this is only a guess, but this way it wouldn't *burn* and you  can control the rate of heat-transfer by raising or lowering the brass cup over the candle.

The only real way to get the fragrance out of them is to put them on a charcoal block.

Wait until the charcoal block to turn white. Only then it it hot enough to release the fragrance.

I am NOT talking about briquettes like you use in a grill. I am talking about charcoal blocks that have a lot pf potassium nitrate in there so they light easily without lighter fuel. You will find these in places that sell high end incense.

the raw frank burns on a lighted charcoal in a metal dish of some sort...i use it sometimes,,,wonderful.

Normally I only use frankincense essential oil as its easy to work with. But I did find some info for you about Frankincense tears which might be helpful.

Frankincense resin (commonly called frankincense tears) are used whole in incense, and burned on a charcoal disc. Typically used along with myrrh. Ground frankincense tears are used as incense in burners.

Great when infused in oil or made into an extract.

Burning frankincense is often used to assist with clearing negative energy and used for protection and during meditations.
