Do I need to strip off the wood finish before I paint it? Do I have to use a harsh chemical stripper or can I sand it? Or can I just paint it as is? Thanks!!

  1. You should be able to paint it.

But you will need a little surface preparation.  With a fine grit sand paper (120 - 150) lightly hand sand the gloss off the existing surface and then clean it with tack cloth to remove the dust.  You will get a better final result if you prime it first, however it is not mandatory.

  2. depends on whats on there right now? is it something really glossy you are probably going to have to sand or strip it..you could get a hand held sander and sand it stripper is some hard work.. i tried that once..never again...

  3. A fine grit sand paper should do the trick.  Try not to touch it with your bare hands after you sand it.  You don't want finger oil on it.
