but don't know how to get them to leave without offending them. Please help.

"Hey, folks, we really enjoy your company and I hate to throw you out, but we have to get dinner started/do laundry/go to the store/supervise the kids' homework/take Johnny to his baseball game/work on an assignment from my boss that has to be finished by morning."

You can be honest with them.  You have a life, you have things to do, you enjoy their company, but right now it's time for them to leave.  End of story.

Just make it clear you already have plans on-even if you don't really.

The next time they come over, tell them that you have to be somewhere and once that time comes, start to clean up and get ready to leave.  Even if that means going to the market and picking up some milk.

I have some relatives who never knew when to leave either so I make all get togethers on a Sunday.  Some who have a two-hour trip ahead, start leaving earlier now.
