I have some old single pane metal windows from the 1930's. Can the glass be removed and replaced with dual ?

  1. Double pane windows require alot of engineering to keep from fogging with humidity between panes.If you cut your siding with a skill saw 1 1/2" all the way around the window you can remove the old windows and replace them with new flanged vinyl windows that will have a flange that can be screwed in from the outside of the house.Kolbe windows makes a molding that attaches to the window perimeter to cover up the 1 1/2" gap in the siding and they look really sharp.I'm a plumber with no window experience and I was able to replace 13 windows in two weekends this way I think it cost about $4000 for everything including the molding


  2. You're better off investing replacement windows that are filled with gas and airtight. I installed my own and wasn't that difficult either. They made a huge difference in the winter and summer months. Plus having the type that tilt out make cleaning them very convienent.
