1. What are the most popular Qh bloodlines ? and why?

2. I rode this a qh one time who had the SMOOTHEST lope EVER! It was amazing, and the owner said he was bred to lope like that.. is this true? if so what are the most comfortable-gaited Quarter horse bloodlines? ( i don't mean like "gaited"

gaited, but the 4 reg gaits, walk, trot, lope/canter. gallop)

thanks!

  1. it doesnt really matter which bloodlines u choose most QH are so inbred they have all the good bloodlines in them. for the smoothest rides ever choose a TWH or a MFT or a pereuvian paso they are the smoothest ride ever you wouldnt believe it. i will never ride a QH again after riding a TWH.

  2. There are a ton of popular Quarter Horses. Zippo Pine Bar, Hollywood Dun It, Peppy San Badger, Smart Little Lena, Rocket Wrangler, Dash For Cash, Firewater Flit, and many more.

Some great barrel racing bloodlines would be Firewater Flit, On The Money Red, Bully Bullion, Dash For Cash and others. There have been some good barrel racers coming out of Reining lines, like Hollywood Dun It.

And of course there are the ever so popular "Bar" lines.

A good barrel horse can come out of any bloodlines - if they have the conformation they'll probably have the talent.

I've seen a great deal of amazing barrel racers with racing bloodlines on one side, and a combination of reining and barrel racing bloodlines on the other.

  3. Well I hear Zippo Pine Bar alot!

  4. Almost any of your pleasure bred QH's are going to have smooth gaits.  In the show ring the judge is looking for horses that would be a pleasure to ride, and a horse that is hard to sit a jog to or has a rough lope is not going to do well.  A lot of it is in your control of the animal, if your horse is loping around uncollected your lope is not going to be as smooth, if collected and in correct frame your horse is going to move much smoother.

Popular bloodlines depend on what discipline you are competing in: for example, western pleasure- Invester, Ima Mr Goodbar and Potential Investment and Invitation Only bloodlines are popular.  In HUS, Sky's Blue Boy, Coats N Tails, Last Detail, and Allocate Your Assets is going to be right up there once his foals start hitting the show ring.

  5. There are so many different events shown within AQHA, so there are different popular bloodlines depending on which event you want to participate in.

For Western Pleasure, people really like the Zippo Pine Bar, Zips Chocolate Chip, Zippos Mr Good Bar, Invitation Only, Hotrodders Jet Set, One Hot Krymsum, etc

For Hunter Under Saddle, people really like Artful Move, Indian Artifacts, Arts Self Portrait, Luke At Me, Last Detail, Skys Blue Boy, Invitation Only, etc.

For reining and cowhorse events, you see a lot of Shining Spark, Matt Dillon Dun It, Hollywood Dun It, Smart Little Lena, Smart Chic OLena, etc

I'm not sure what foundation bloodlines, barrels, etc are popular, but thats just a start.

As for comfortable....its all about how the horse is built.  Hunt Seat horses are bred to have big sweepy strides, and western pleasure horses are bred to be slow legged, flat kneed, etc.  A well-bred horse will have good comformation, and hopefully be a smooth ride.  Most of the western pleasure bred horses I've had have been super smooth.

  6. 1. The first poster has some great answers. I think that First Down Dash has to be one of the most popular sires. An unborn foal by him (or maybe a grandson of him) sold at auction for $125,000. Unborn. I was amazed.

    2. I haven't heard of quarter horses being bred for gait, but I can tell you my Skippa World and Sugar Bars colt has the most amazing lope I've ever ridden, and I've never felt the need to post his trot.

    3. My barrel horses have Manx Cat, Rebel Cause, Truly Truckle, Bueno Chex, King, Peppy San badger, Doc Bar, and First Down Dash. These are also some of my fave lines. Great lines for barrel horses are the cutting bloodlines. Cutters are bred to move and turn quick, like a barrel horse needs.

    Hope this helps!

  7. You could ask five different QH owners this and probably get five different answers. Which lines are popular are really specific to what they're being used for. As far as a smooth lope, you're going to want to find a larger horse that looks a little more TB. I have a 16.2 QH gelding that's actually impressive (no, doesn't have the gene) and LaWimp. He's HUGE but the smoothest horse you'll ever ride and SUPER FAST. As far as a whole though, popular barrel racing bloodlines right now are Jet Deck, Dash for Cash, and Cash or Jet bloodlines. They're typically a smaller framed horse and built for nothing but speed and may not grant you that smoother than silk lope. I recommend getting a large horse if you want speed and a smooth ride. Lastly, look for more TB lines further back in the breeding rather than cow QH lines. Hope that helps!

  8. Actually, On the Money Red is number one barrel sire to date. Some other flashy ones are Dash For Cash, Jet Deck, Rocket Wrangler, Special Effort, Impressive (HYPP N/N), Kingsville, etc.

Nowadays, you find more and more people cross breeding different types. Persay, cow horses with running quarter horses, hoping to get the quarter horse speed, but the cow horse bulkiness and agility.

I've no knowledge concerning pleasure, I think it's absolutely boring, so I don't mean to sound biased. There's plenty more out there, these are just "running" blood.
