I am very scared and nervous not knowing what to expect with my body. I have 2 children (4 1/2 years old & 19 months old) so I know I can have a baby. I was 11 weeks pregnant and went to my regular appt. for a check up and the baby had no heartbeat. The size of the baby was 9 wks 2 days, but I had not m/c at home yet so I opted for the D&C. I just had the D&C 5 days ago (July 24th) so I am not trying to get pregnant right now, but I am curious as to when I might expect a period?? I also am afraid if I do become pregnant I will m/c again being that I heard no reason why I m/c in the first place. I go to a military hospital, do not have 1 set doctor, and they are not thorough with anything, they did the procedure, said no s*x or baths for 2 weeks and sent me home. I just have no idea what to expect. Thanks for any advice or help you can give me xoxo

  1. I too lost my baby to a miscarriage and had my own D & E performed on July 24th.  I have three older children, so I also know I'm capable of having healthy children.  My doctor said that my baby probably had a heart abnormality or something else genetically wrong and that's why I miscarried, though he couldn't give an exact reason.   They often don't know for sure.  He also said that I would likely get my period back in 4-6 weeks and then I could start trying again if I wanted to.  Good luck.  Hopefully it'll get better for us all.

  2. I was as far a long as you were when the same thing happened. Only the baby had died at about 8 1/2 wks. I also opted for the d&c. A week after I had a check up with my dr and he told me that everything went fine and we could start trying as soon as we were ready to. I ended up getting my first period 45 days after the d&c. I am waiting on the second although I hope it doesn't show and I get a positive on a hpt. I also feel nervous and scared about becoming pregnant again. Miscarrying is one of the worst things to have to go through and I don't want to ever go through that again. As I have been told by my dr, miscarriages can happen and there is no reason to why (usually). It is scarry to think that they are such a comine occurance and no one realizes until after they have gone through one themselves.

Just give yourself sometime to grieve, you will never get over it. Take as much time as YOU need. If you end up wanting to try again soon, like after your first period, then go for it. There is no real reason to wait. The only reason (as long as everything went well) to wait longer is to give the dr a date to go by  when they are dating your next pregnancy.

Good luck honey and I am so aorry for your loss.

  3. I'm sorry for your loss. I had a d/c back in 2005 for a blighted ovum. I didn't get my period for 9 weeks, but that was on the long side. Some women get it after only 4 weeks or so. Once you get that, you can start trying again. They usually won't give you an exact reason for the miscarriage... They're actually very common. It is usually something chromosomal that is wrong with the baby... meaning if they made it to this world survival would have been very difficult, if not impossible. Everything happens for a reason. I'm sorry you're having to go through this though, and I hope you can have a healthy pregnancy soon.

  4. sorry for your loss... i also lost my first baby at 11 weeks, back in April They dr couldn't give the exact cause but did see a sign of a hematoma in the ultra-sound so that could be the cause of my miscarriage. But you are lucky my body wasn't not able to miscarry natural so after 8 weeks of constant bleeding i finally got an D & C on June 10th.

I was told I could get my period anytime between 2 - 8 weeks and I got it on June 28th...

My dr also told me that there is no specific time in waiting, it solely depends on when you are emotionally ready. Doctors prefer if you wait 2 - 3 cycles so that it is easier to determine the due date. Also, the no bath or no s*x policies is so that you do not get an infection in your uterus... if you get an infection it that can lead to scare tissue and a harder time to get pregnant later on.

  5. It took me about 4 weeks to have a period after my D&C.  Everyone is different, of course, but I would think anywhere from 3-6 weeks would be normal.  I also was given no specific reason for my miscarriage.  I'm not sure that any doctor looks into it thoroughly unless you lose the baby after the first trimester or you've had multiple miscarriages. Good luck :)
