1. Why is it that the poles the pole vaulters use look so dirty and used?

2. you know those things that the people who are running/doing hurdles put their feet on before they start, what are they and what do they do?

3. how many people does the "Birds Nest" thing hold!??! It's HUGE!!!!

1. Because they are. Athletes like to use their own equipment, and they don't like to buy new equipment before the game, because it takes time to get used to.

2. It arhcors to the ground, and the athletes push on them to get a quick start. Without them, the starting will be much slower.
