i'm 18, and ever since i can remember, my mom/a few teachers complained about me being too lazy, disorganized, and daydreamy. i exhibit most of the signs of the inattentive subtypes.

however, i don't really have sloppy handwriting...i mean, it's tiny and thin, but it's legible.

i like to watch movies, although i go from focusing to not focusing at all.

i like to doodle in class...but that's not characteristic of inattentive

adhd, is it?

  1. If you have experienced these since before you were seven, consistently for at least 6 months, both at home and at school, then you most likely qualify for the diagnosis of ADHD-Inattentive subtype.

Often does not give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other activities.

Often has trouble keeping attention on tasks or play activities.

Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly.

Often does not follow instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to a failure to understand instructions, or defiant/oppositional behaviour ).

    Often has trouble organizing activities.

Often avoids, dislikes, or doesn't want to do things that take a lot of mental effort for a long period of time (such as schoolwork or homework).

Often loses things needed for tasks and activities (e.g. toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools).

    Is often easily distracted.

Is often forgetful in daily activities.

So, yes, doodling can be a characteristic of inattentive ADHD.

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the above symptoms have more in common with mild autism than the hyperactive subtypes of ADHD, as there is often a lot more 'tuning out' and daydreaming than with most ADHD types, and far less of the risk taking and impulsive behaviours of ADHD types.
