Do army medical doctors have to go to basic training if they start right after college.

When schooling is over are you put on active duty or can you chooose to serve in the reserve.

Finally, what rank do most army medical doctors retire at considering they start out as captains.

  1. You would attend the Army Medical Department Officer's Basic Course after graduating Med School.  It is not like basic training.  It is more of a gentlemen's course.  You can choose Active or Reserve.  It is best to start as Active duty.  That way you get a lot of experience without the worry of high malpractice insurance.  Most docs retire as either a Lieutenant Colonel or Colonel, if they served a full twenty years.
