I have some questions about the novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Can anyone who knows about the book help?

Why didn't the twins who murdered Santiago Nasar go to prison? My second question is, a lot of people knew that he was going to be murdered so why didn't they warn him? He went into his fiancee's house and was told by her father that he was going to be murdered by the twins who were waiting for him outside. Her father told him that he had two choices: 1. Hide in his house or 2. go out with his rifle. Why did he ignore these choices and go outside unarmed? Any help with be great.
