Question:

I have some questions about the olympics (I'm guessing they're probably easy to answer)?

1. What would happen if the Chinese Gymnasts did turn out to be underage? Would their medals be taken away? Would the medals we awarded to other people? (Ex- Nastia, who came in 2nd in the Uneven Bar Final, would be given the gold and the next 2 women would get the silver and bronze?)

2. Are the medals that are given to the athletes during the podium thing the actual medals that they keep? or are they like props or something?

3. What are the medals made out of?

4. do the participating athletes have to pay for transportation to the host country themselves?

5. where do the athletes stay while in the host country?

thanks!

  1. 1. Yes and yes. If that happens to be the case, the entire Chinese women's gymnastics team may lose their team gold medal and He Kexin would lose her gold medal, which would be awarded to Nastia Liukin.

    2. Yes.

    3. The gold medals are made out of pure gold, and believe it or not, the silver and bronze medals are both made out of pure silver; the bronze medals are not made out of bronze. This year, the medals had both the traditional metals and the added jade. The higher the standing, the better quality the jade.

    4. No, sponsors provide the transportation to the Olympic venues. If the athletes wish to go somewhere else than the venues, then they will most likely have to pay for themselves.
