in a 10 gallon aquarium, I have it set up with the water for the tadpoles and rocks for them to climb up on when they turn into frogs, problem is my water is crappy, I change it every day and by night time it is murky, I can't afford a filter system right now, is there anything I can do to keep the water cleaner longer than 1 day?

  1. Sounds like your over feeding since your cleaning it and its dirty by nightfall. My daughter has some (about 20) that she scooped the eggs out of some stagnant water (they would have died since we were emptying the water). We have it in a big tupperware, outside and have not changed the water or fed them yet. They eat the plant growth in the water while they are babies and are growing very rapidly. Once they start to get legs they begin to eat insects.

  2. Hey your tadpoles have to live in dirty water. They will grow faster to.

  3. tadpoles wont need completely clean water. do you think the swampy ponds they live in are clean and bacteria free,no. just put gravel.water and put there food in and it shouldnt be that bad

  4. I have  two pacific tree frog tadpoles and a newly turned tadpole, he's the tiniest frog.  I have a rock in my aquarium too, but my little frog has a hard time getting on it, so you should make the substrate go from water to land....I might be able to post of picture of my tank later to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.  But if your future frogs are unable to get out of the water, they'll drown.  My water would get murky too, and I started using spring water and I haven't had to change it in 3 days. But many tadpoles grow up in stagnant water, so it's not an issue.   You might have decaying food or plant matter in your tank which is making the still water to become stagnant.  But if your tadpoles came from a still environment then you shouldn't get a filter.  Those tadpoles need still water and a filter will create movement.

EDIT: Heres my tadpole and froglet aquarium.

  5. well i have an aquarium...so ...

Maybe its because you have too much tadpoles?

Do you add soil as a substrate? If so, that is the dirty thing?

Well, filters...you DONT need to get a SUPER HIGH TECH filter...I have one that my brother gave me that was like 10 dollars. But if you cant buy that, thats okay. Then I suggest you..put more water, I think, the more water there is the harder it will to make the water dirty...

well thats from my experience with my turtle.
