I have some tiny tomato plants.When should I replant?

They are about one week old and look like cress!All growing close together.When and how do I separate to put in bigger pots?

  1. wait till the seedlings are stronger and healthy, then separate them and plant, but not in the heat of the day with direct hot sun


  2. Leave them maybe another week or so then pick out the strongest looking seedlings to plant into your bigger pots.

    Make sure you keep the soil moist other wise,you might loose them.

  3. A good rule of thumb when transplanting is to wait until the plant has 4 leaves. As for thinning, you can thin out now and continue to do so until you are ready to transplant. To be cautious, just thin lightly and so you can monitor the progress. When they seem crowded, thin again.

    To plant, take a spoon and begin at one end of your tray and scoop up the first plant. You will see the root ball come up, pick it up gently by the stem and plant. I was taught not to touch plant roots with my hands, so I use sterile gloves when transplanting - just to be safe.
