  1. Depends what cable box you have. Most of the cable boxes will have a/v inputs on the back. And you can run the RCA cables from your receiver to the red which stands for the right and white which stands for the left into your cable box input. Then you should have sound. ~:_)

  2. You are connected to the TV/Video inputs on the amplifier correct?

Set it to the TV input...

1] Make sure your RCA audio cables are good so the Cable box's signal is getting to the Sony Amp...you can try another source of audio like a CD player or Tape player if you have one....

2] If you don't get sound with that second device, then you may have a bad input switch on your Sony...

3] If you DO get sound on that 2nd device, then the Cable box is not outputting a signal on those connectors....

4] There may be a volume control or On/Off control in your Cable Box's menu to turn that output on....

  3. setting means check if it is muted or things like that

secondly audio should be connected to audio of that particular slot for example if SV is your video source then Audio of SV block to be terminated so when you select SV it will pick up Video and audio of SV

That should solve the mystery it applies to not only sony but any other co. made system also
