The popcorn texture seems to wipe off when I try to clean.

  1. Be ready for the popcorn to fall.  That stuff is the hardest to clean because even trying to remove cobwebs it "snows".  Dab it with Soft Scrub with bleach if you have a white ceiling.  The Soft scrub will bleach the stains on the ceiling and it won't matter if you wipe it all off (assuming you have a white popcorn ceiling like most I've seen).

  2. They now make a spray can ceiling paint.  You can get it at Home Depot, it is called up-shot.  It will paint straight up in the air to the spot you need.

It might be easier to paint and seal over it with this product, rather than wiping your popcorn off of your ceiling.  Your popcorn ceiling was never sealed, you might want to go ahead and seal the entire ceiling if you cook a lot.   :o)

    Good luck

  3. a 50/50 mix of bleach and water sprayed on the ceiling with a spray bottle will clean it. please be sure and wear glasses and cover your mouth with a towel. it may take more than 1 application. (this also works for most other stains on popcorn.

  4. i get tomato sauce off my microwave by heating water for a minute or two, the steam softens it enough to wipe off easily.  see if you can do the same.  expose it to steam somehow like an uncapped pressure cooker or something for a few minutes then use a very soft brush.

  5. I don't think you can clean this. I have popcorn ceilings  and I hate them. I am getting rid of them one by one. When it gets wet it falls down so I can't see how you could possibly clean it. The paint that shoots upward may possibly work but the sauce may also bleed through because it's red sauce.Good luck.
