.. I am 6'7" and the sensei says i won't get that uniform in my size and says that i should get a black judo/karate suit instead

He doesn't want us to wear white because the tradition in his specialty form of jujitsu says that white = death.

The jujitsu discipline is Yachigusa-Ryu and we dont do tournaments or get colored belts.

Isn't the black judo/karate/jujitsu suit specifically designated for black belts?

Although we don't do tournaments we may visit other dojos and I don't want to be seen as disrespectful wearing a black uniform if it is usually intended for black belts as I am a beginner

(I am sure the sensei knows best but I just wanted to check before I order it online)

Also anyone know of a good place to order online - especially somewhere that would cater for my excessive height!

  1. Don't worry- many clubs allow novices to wear black gi's. As far as I know, it is just the wearing of the black hakama that is reserved for black belts.

This is the gi I own. It is a very good, hard-wearing gi and comes in a variety of sizes. It's not as heavy as a judo suit, but not as weak as a karate suit. This makes it perfect for ju-jitsu, as it is easy to move around in and is very comfortable. Even in the smaller ones, the sleeves and legs are very long, as is the length of the jacket.
