  1. You should call your consulate or embassy for that. It's a very important question.


  2. Yes, Take your passport to the postoffice and they can renew it for you. If you let it expire, you will have to pay $100.  Now you will only have to pay $60 to renew it.

It depends.  Citizens of some countries can renew their passports through their embassies, others can't; a citizen can only get a passport when they are at home.  You need to check with your own country's passport-issuing authority to find out if you can renew your passport while you're in the US.

Most countries will allow you to do this, but the only way to know for sure is by checking with your Embassy/Consulate in the US.  If you live in a major city, you can go in person (the best option).  You really, really don't want to wait until the last minute with this or it'll jeapordize your H-1 and if you're planning to go for your Permanent Residency, that won't be good.
