thru the carpet, causing the nails to go thru my childs foot as she comes down the stairs, any tips on how this can be rectified without replacing the carpet?

  1. Thicker carpet pad.

  2. The tackless should be about 1" away from the riser. Should not be where you are stepping. Put a towel over it & hammer them down so you don't damage the carpet.

  3. Quick fix: hammer the pins (the sharp items poking the child) down.
