  2. You have two seperate problems, barring some bizzare electrical snafu. First the brake lights. Have you checked the fuse? Fuse O.K. then it is most likely the brake light switch. The switch is operated by the brake pedal up underneath the dashboard. If you have a large kickpanel that prevents access to the top, middle section of your brake pedal arm, remove it to get access. The switch is normally mounted to the side of the steering column and as the brake pedal is depressed you can see the switch move to the open position. Most of them clip into place from the top of their mounting bracket, and they all have a wireing harness attached to them that also clips into place. The switch can be tested with a volt/ohm meter to see if that is really the culprit. If not, you have other wireing issues such as a bad ground/broken wire/unplugged connector, etc.

The transmisson could be anything from a bad shift linkage cable to the tranny it's self,  or again some weird electrical problem; check ALL of your fuses. A trip via tow truck to a good tranmission shop is probably in order for that.
