Question:

I have tender pain in my hand - what is it?

As I hold my right hand up in front of my face, it seems to be centered around the bone at the bottom left corner of the hand (opposite the thumb). I don't know what's caused it - it could either be exercise (yoga/pilates) which I do a lot of, or working at the computer at work with the mouse/keyboard.

It hurts when I flex the wrist.

Ouch.

  1. It is probably RSI but there are other, more serious, possibilities.  It could be carpel tunnel syndrome for example or a trapped nerve somewhere in the arm, neck or shoulder.  Not wanting to frighten you but I started to experience pain in exactly the same area about 4 years ago.  The pain gradually tracked up my arm and to my shoulder and I started to get pins and needles.  It was finally diagnosed as a tumour on the outer cell membrane of the nerve which runs down the arm.  The tumour was in my neck and last October I had to have surgery to remove it because, although benign, it was getting larger and beginning to get too close for comfort to my spinal cord.  My advice is to get it checked by your GP just in case.

  3. It does sound like rsi - repetative strain injury - often caused by overuse of the mouse of keyboard and not positioning your hands correctly. Maybe you should check the comfort of your typing position. Otherwise, could be coming from a trapped nerve further up your wrist or arm. I would defo go to the doc.

  4. Probably repetative strain injury from going on the pc too much, i get it in my shoulder if i go on the pc for more than an hour. I just stretch it out and leave the computer alone for a but but I've never had it in my hand, guess its from bad posture when your on the computer.

  5. Keyboard cramp
