Question:

I have tendinitis in my knee. Would massage therapy be helpful or not?

I've had the condition for about 6 weeks and my doctor only gave advice (ice it, don't take the stairs, use tylenol/ibuprofen for pain). I'm wondering if massage therapy would help - either with pain management or the healing process.

  1. Yes, they can be of great help, but it would not be a relief for the pain for the time being. Scar tissue needs to be warmed up with deep tissue work if you say this was 6 weeks ago.

  2. Your Doctor is right about taking it easy!

Massage will help relieve some of the pain and discomfort.  It (massage therapy) is not a cure for tendinitis.  But it can help your muscles and tendons relax over time.

In the mean time........ take your doctor's advice about icing the knee, over the counter meds, and taking it easy all over.

Also, elevate you knee above you heart, with the ice compression on it.

Below are some web sites that I hope will help you out!

  3. Yes it probably would help.  Most tendinitis is caused by muscles that are overly tight which causes your posture to be out of alignment.

You have to align the body and take the stress off the knee.

Inflammation of a tendon can also be caused by weakness so strengthening can help too.

  4. nope, massage therapy will only over stimulate an already inflammed area....I would suggest you check into accupuncture, it has worked wonders for me.
