I have terrible sleeping habits!?

i'm 16 and i've gotten adjusted to just staying up late. i'm usually up till 330 am or so because i am not tired until then! i've been staying up late throughout my junior yr of highschool due to the huge amount of homework assignments and tests. now it's the summer and i sleep till about 1230 pm because i go to sleep so late. what do i do!? this is extremely unhealthy. i'm wide awake right now and it's 1:30 am

  2. OMG me too! XD i cant sleep until like 6 A.M. and i wake up at like 3:50 and that means if i dont go back, i cant go to school! omg 2:11 A.M. i need to sleep! i need to try sumthin XD

I think most of us on here now are in the same boat as you, the idea about getting up at 7 or whenever your school day should begin is good, but if you have atleast 2 weeks or more before school, I recommend starting gradually, like for a day or 2 try setting the alarm for 9 or 10, then bring it back down an hour for the next couple days until your body is used to the early hours....each day trying to go to bed earlier and earlier, soon it will balance out.  If your not tired....do it anyways, get in bed, get a ritual down, like taking a bath or reading - NOCOMPUTER, OR TV, they will distract your mission.  And when you get up in the morning, get up and get going, don't just laz around, it won't help your "mission".  Good luck to you and hey, I'm trying it too now!

  5. You probably have insomnia. See a psychiatrist about sleeping meds. All my life I would take hours to fall asleep and I could never stay asleep until I got meds. Once you take your meds you probably can fall asleep within half an hour in bed. It depends on the med. If one doesn't work, try another.

    It works at any time of the day. Once in the eighth grade I accidentally took it in the morning. I couldn't stay awake barely at all, even though the teacher threaten what she'd do if we fell asleep!!

    The other day I stayed up till four in the morning at the computer because I didn't feel tired because I didn't take my sleeping meds. Once I took them I went right to bed and slept a very well. You sound like you have very similar insomnia.

    Don't worry so much about dependency unless you'd rather spend all your life staying up to an unhealthy hour. If you're like me, you probably are practically dependent already.

  6. set an alarm to go off at 7 am regardless of how late you stay up then force yourself to get up and then run a lap around your house or apartment if your still tired try taking a shower or eating cerial

  7. ahhh me too!!! i hate it..thats why im up and its like 2 in the morning. I just cant sleep. I heard taking a natural herb  makes you go to sleep  but its not like sleeping medicine. i heard its better.  I forgot what its called. but i know it starts with an M.  

  8. Well do this... sense school is pretty soon then whatever you do you HAVE to wake up at the time you do for school. So what 7 am? Ok well you can stay up until when ever but wake up then. Pretty soon you will be tired and go to sleep on time. Then you will be ready for school.  

  9. Yes you are right it is very unhealthy especially for a person your age. Not getting enough sleep won't cause any permanent damage but it is very important for your body to get the rest that it needs so that you have enough energy for the day and can complete all of your day to day tasks without getting restless. As far as improving to get a healthy 7-9 hours of sleep first I would suggest taking a look at your study habits. You said you stay up late due to the huge amount of homework and tests. It is not a good thing to cram your homework into the hours that you should be sleeping and when you get to school the next morning you will be essentially unprepared for tests, notes, or any quizzes that your teacher is about to hand out. I am going to suggest a simple routine that should make a positive difference and you will find yourself better disciplined and have a positive frame of mind. First of all when you get home from school take a 30 minute break. Eat a snack, watch TV, do whatever you need to do to take away the stress you might have endured during the school day. Now it is time to do some studying. Go into a quiet room like your bedroom where your mind won't be taken off of what's important. Study for 1 hour increments and take a 10 minute break every hour. Use this time to stretch, get a glass of water, etc. Let's say you got out of school at 3:00. If you got home at 3:30 took your break, and had a total of three hours of studying to do you would be done at around 7:30! What a difference huh? Then you will have time to do what you enjoy like surf the net, watch a movie, take a drive, etc. I wish you the best of luck in putting this plan or another one into shape and finding yourself living a more enjoyable lifestyle!

  10. am in the exact same situation. 1:42am right now i wont get sleepy til bout 3:30 uuugh. guna have trouble when school start lol
